Bird Watching around Dexter Lakes
BIRD WATCHING
Throughout the year bird watching on the lake is very rewarding. Some birds are passing through, while others are permanent residents. This spring several beautiful mergansers were cruising the unfrozen edges of Lake Wassakeag, as well as some very colorful wood ducks as well as others.

LAKE BIRDS
North American Kingfishers are fish-eating birds found in sheltered waters. They use trees or wires (or in my cases the top of the mast on my sunfish) as a lookout perch and they catch fish by plunge-diving head first, often after hovering.

This website will attempt to show pictures of seasonal birds and provide some information about them.

If you have any pictures of birds seen in and around our lake please email them to us with a description and where it was spotted.
