Green Thumb Society's 2005 Town Report Overview
The Green Thumb Society was formed in April 2004. Our vision is to help maintain the Town of Dexter's flower boxes and gardens in addition to creating new ones, while saving local tax dollars and create a sense of pride of our community.

Deb Burdin of B'Warts Nursery, Fred Sherburne of Almost Compost & Sherburne Farms joined Judy Wilbur Craig in the beginning stages to develop the group and Ivy & Mike Brooks generously allowed the Green Thumbs to meet at the Brewster Inn.

Members elected:
Fred Sherburne & Judy Wilbur Craig as Co-Chairmen and Alice Robichaud as Notetaker

  • Some of the projects worked on this year include:
  • Planting annuals in the Memorial Heart Garden on Post Office lawn
  • Planting annuals & perennials in the Town Office Garden
  • Planting and maintaining Wayside Park /Gazebo Annual Flower Bed & Perennial Gardens
  • Planting some of entering Town Sign Gardens
  • Eleanor Ronco Smith Park Clean up
  • Planting & care of the Town of Dexter Main Street Barrels
  • Participated in decorating for Wild West Weekend
  • Decorated Town Council Chamber Fall window
  • Started an account for Memorial Gardens and benches for 2005
  • Establish a High School Scholarship Fund by selling “homegrown” Dexter Maine Seed Packets

Generous donations have been made by B'Warts Nursery, Almost Compost & Sherburne Farms, Brewster Inn, Judy Craig Consulting (website at www.GreenThumbSociety.com) and many individuals who put in many, many hours of volunteer work planting, weeding, watering, donating their own plants and money donations for the Memorial Fund and Hunger Gardens. Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month, 7pm at the Brewster Inn on Zions Hill in Dexter.
